Fiorella Horna-Guerra is a Program Consultant with the North Carolina Farmworker Health Program in the Office of Research, Demonstrations, and Rural Development of North Carolina's Department of Health and Human Services. She received her Bachelors in Health Sciences from Hunter College in New York City, NY and has worked in various public health positions for over 15 years.
Fiorella has served as a health educator, community activist, public health trainer, and healthcare consultant. She has been an advocate for social change and representation of minority populations; particularly that of Hispanic/Latino community members. She has developed material and made presentations on topics related to community empowerment, health promotion, health education, partnership development, elimination of health disparities, and development of cultural competent systems of care.
In 2004, she was awarded the "Community Impact" award from La Conexion for her contributions in health and has been recognized by her peers for her work and leadership while serving on several boards and committees. She is also a fellow for the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture and was recently selected to participate in the 2005 Town of Cary Institute of Government.
Personal Information:
Fiorella was born in Lima, Peru and grew up in New York City, New York. She relocated to North Carolina when she got married and is the mother of two children. She enjoys music, art, theater, and dancing.
What I would like to get out of this program:
- As a result of this fellowship, I hope to
- Learn how to better serve as a community leader and advocate
- Meet and learn from other community leaders
- Gain additional skills to better facilitate systems change, development of sustainable policies, and increased representation of minority populations.
